Apple and Samsung maintain their peak positions

Apple and Samsung, positioned as the two biggest names in the smartphone market, do not lose their dominance in the market, even as the years pass.

Despite the global slowdown, Apple and Samsung continue to dominate Global Smartphone sales. A recent report from Counterpoint Research highlighted smartphone shipments for Q2 2023, revealing Apple's dominance as it secured the top four positions. In contrast, Samsung claimed the remaining spots in the top 10.

Apple's iPhone 14 led the charts in sales, with the iPhone 14 Pro Max and iPhone 14 Pro trailing in second and third positions. Impressively, the slightly older iPhone 13 still maintained its position, landing in fourth place globally. Apple's sales surge, especially in Asia and Europe, allowed the tech giant to acquire many new users in these regions.

Both the iPhone 14 and iPhone 13 models witnessed positive growth when comparing year-on-year sales. However, Apple's overall representation in the top-10 smartphone list witnessed a slight decline in Q2 2023.

Samsung remains a robust contender, grabbing the subsequent spots in the top 10. The budget-friendly Samsung Galaxy A14 took the 5th spot, followed by Galaxy A54, Galaxy A14 5G, Galaxy S23 Ultra, Galaxy A04e, and Galaxy A34, filling the positions from 5th to 10th. The Galaxy A series, particularly popular in Asia and Latin America, contributed to 60% of its total sales in Q2 2023. On the higher end, the Galaxy S23 Ultra maintained its popularity in North America and Western Europe, with these regions accounting for two-thirds of its global sales.

Year-on-year comparisons highlighted the iPhone 14 series' ascent, replacing the iPhone 13 series in the top spots. The Galaxy S22 Ultra 5G of Q2 2023 was surpassed by its successor, the Galaxy S23 Ultra. It's worth noting that Xiaomi, once a prominent player, witnessed a decline as none of its devices made it to the top-10 global sales. In the previous year, the Redmi Note 11 LTE Global was ranked 10th.

Samsung and Apple are currently in fierce competition, especially in the premium market segment. Still, when it comes to affordable smartphones, Samsung remains unparalleled.
