Samsung has maintained its position as a pioneer in the foldable smartphone market since introducing the segment in 2019. Currently, the company offers two foldable models to consumers - the vertically-folding Galaxy Z Fold series and the clamshell-style Galaxy Z Flip series. While both models have been successful for Samsung, the company has been exploring new foldable form factors for some time. Rumors suggest that Samsung may release a completely new foldable device in their 2023 lineup.

Samsung's 2023 lineup could include a tri-folding phone

According to famous leaker Yogesh Brar, Samsung may not release the Galaxy S23 FE in 2023. Brar did not give any specific reasons for this claim but suggested that Samsung could instead launch a tri-folding phone this year, along with the Galaxy Z Fold 5 and the Galaxy Z Flip 5.

Brar also noted that Samsung plans to continue improving its Fold and Flip series. Although Brar did not provide any details on the specs or price of the tri-folding phone, Samsung has been experimenting with various form factors for years, including the tri-folding design.

As details about Samsung's rumored tri-folding phone are currently unknown, speculation about its design is inevitable. However, one potential source of inspiration for Samsung's approach could be the foldable panels that its display division has previously showcased.

In fact, Samsung applied for a patent back in 2015 detailing a tri-folding display, although it is uncertain whether the concepts featured in the patent will ever be produced. Therefore, while there is no concrete information about the design of Samsung's rumored tri-folding phone, we can look to the company's past for potential clues.
