Samsung trails in the best-selling foldable smartphone category!

In recent quarters, the foldable smartphone market has seen a substantial surge. Globally, Samsung has emerged as the front-runner. However, the narrative in China paints a different picture.

Two separate reports, one from CINNO Research and another from Counterpoint Research, highlight Huawei's dominant position in the foldable market within China. In contrast, Samsung's success in the global arena with their Galaxy Z Flip 4, touted as the best-selling foldable smartphone, doesn't mirror its performance in the Chinese market. There, the Galaxy Z Flip 4 settles for a distant eighth place, closely followed by the Galaxy Z Fold 4 variant, W23, at ninth.

Counterpoint's analysis further suggests that local Chinese brands will likely maintain their stronghold on the domestic foldable market in the coming years. This projection is significant, especially considering China currently stands as the world's largest foldable market. So, which device takes the crown in China? The Oppo Find N2 Flip leads the way, with the subsequent four spots occupied by Huawei models: the Mate X3, Pocket S, Mate Xs 2, and P50 Pocket.

Interestingly, Xiaomi's Mix Fold 2 and Vivo's X Fold 2 are absent from the top list. However, the Vivo X Flip managed to secure the tenth spot, leaving us to wonder if Xiaomi's latest Mix Fold 3 might appear in future rankings.

To summarize, the top foldable smartphones in China for the first half of 2023 are as follows:

Oppo Find N2 Flip
Huawei Mate X3
Huawei Pocket S
Huawei Mate Xs 2
Huawei P50 Pocket
Oppo Find N2
Honor Magic VS
Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 4
Samsung W23 5G
Vivo X Flip
