Decathlon, the renowned French sports retailer, has recently unveiled a new version of its Riverside 520 E e-bike, tailored for city living. This latest iteration features a step-through model, enhancing accessibility and user-friendliness, particularly for urban commuters. The step-through design is not solely about convenience for shorter riders; it also simplifies the process of mounting and dismounting, a significant advantage for navigating city streets.

The Riverside 520 E is designed with urban environments in mind. It is powered by a rear hub motor, delivering a 250-watt output, which aligns with European e-bike regulations. This motor provides sufficient power to tackle city hills, making it a dependable companion for daily commuting. Although equipped with a short-travel front suspension to navigate uneven city terrains, its narrow tires indicate that it is more suited for paved roads rather than off-road trails.

One of the standout features of this e-bike is its 500-watt-hour battery, boasting a range of up to 62 miles on a single charge, depending on the level of assistance used. This range makes it an ideal option for longer urban commutes or leisurely city rides. Additionally, the bike is equipped with a torque sensor, ensuring a smoother riding experience, a testament to Decathlon's dedication to quality and rider satisfaction.

In terms of technology, the Riverside 520 E maintains a balance between simplicity and efficiency. The bike includes a multi-function button to control assist settings, a display showing speed and distance, and a USB port for charging devices on the go. Comfort has not been overlooked, with the inclusion of an ergonomic saddle and grips, along with basic lighting and a rear stand. However, additional features like mudguards and a luggage rack are available at extra cost.

Completing the package, the Riverside 520 E comes with a Microshift H081 drivetrain and Tektro hydraulic disc brakes, ensuring reliable performance and safety. Offered in a single green color and available in sizes S, M, and L, the bike is competitively priced at approximately 1,399 euros (about $1,510 USD). This new addition to the urban e-bike segment appears to strike a harmonious balance between accessibility, functionality, and comfort, catering well to the needs of the modern city dweller.
