Electric vehicles are now moving towards becoming the new normal of our lives. In this context, the leaders of the automobile industry aim to increase competition among each other. The Japanese automaker's CEO told Reuters on Friday that Nissan Motor Co.'s (7201.T) discussions with Renault SA (RENA.PA) are focused on improving their competitiveness as equal partners and optimizing their investment in electric vehicles.

According to reports from Reuters Nissan and Renault, which is also Nissan's largest shareholder, have less than two weeks to meet the Nov. 15 deadline for a deal. Makoto Uchida, CEO of Nissan, declined to discuss whether an agreement could be reached this month. However, he stated that he spoke with Renault CEO Luca de Meo every weekend and that the conversations would be "ongoing for the future."

According to the companies, Nissan is also thinking about investing in Renault's planned electric vehicle unit.  According to people with knowledge of the talks, the two sides have also been discussing the terms of a possible 15 percent reduction in Renault's 43% stake in Nissan.
