Elon Musk has been on the agenda for a long time with discussions about whether to buy Twitter. In this context, new reports claim that Musk will lay off most workers. Regardless of whether Elon Musk purchases Twitter, which could occur as soon as this Friday, a report from The Washington Post states that Twitter is preparing for layoffs.

According to some reports, when the purchase is done, the CEO of Tesla will lay off 75% of Twitter's 7,500 employees. This would likely make the site unusable and reduce its ability to moderate content and protect users. This would represent 25% reduction in the workforce, leaving only approximately 1,900 people without employment.

Edwin Chen, a data scientist who was previously in charge of Twitter's spam and health metrics has shared his ideas on this huge layoff. He told The Post that Musk's cuts would be "unimaginable." He stated, "It would be a cascading effect where you’d have services going down and the people who were still there would not have the institutional knowledge to get them back up, and they would be completely demoralized and want to leave themselves."

Reports from Bloomberg News claims that Twitter's General Counsel Sean Edgett informed employees that cost-cutting discussions began earlier this year, therefore we can say that a huge layoff is quite possible.
