This standalone device introduces users to a new way of interacting with digital content, displaying apps within their physical space and allowing them to expand and interact with virtual objects.

The headset incorporates a control mechanism similar to the Apple Watch Digital Crown, enabling seamless transition between virtual reality (VR) and augmented reality (AR) modes. Navigation within the operating system is facilitated through hand, finger, and eye tracking, with cameras capturing gestures for precise interactions.

Additionally, voice control and Siri integration enhance the overall user experience, particularly for text entry.

To foster a greater sense of connection with others in the same physical space, the Vision Pro introduces EyeSight, a feature that allows other people to view the user's eyes and see what they are focusing on. This enhances interpersonal interactions and facilitates a deeper level of engagement.

While the Vision Pro is a standalone device, it seamlessly integrates with the Apple ecosystem and leverages iCloud to synchronize data across the user's Mac, iPhone, or iPad. An impressive demonstration showcases the ability to view the display of a Mac directly within the Vision Pro by simply looking at it.

In addition to standard Apple apps, the Vision Pro offers an enhanced FaceTime experience with spatial elements. Contacts appear as life-size tiles, accompanied by spatial audio cues that help users identify who is speaking.

The Vision Pro headset is equipped with Apple's custom M2 chip, which includes a dedicated media co-processor, delivering powerful performance for an immersive VR experience. Additionally, the headset features the capability to capture spatial photos and videos, as well as simulate a dark theater environment even in well-lit surroundings.

To ensure optimal performance, the Vision Pro headset utilizes a new R1 chip that works in tandem with the M2 chip, effectively creating a dual-processor system. This combination of processors enhances the overall capabilities and processing power of the headset. Additionally, the Vision Pro operates on the visionOS, a dedicated operating system designed specifically for the device.

For individuals who wear glasses, the Vision Pro offers compatibility with custom optical inserts created by Zeiss, which can be easily attached to the headset's lenses using magnetic connectors. In terms of battery life, the headset can last up to two hours on its own, but for extended use, it can be powered all day by connecting it to an external battery or keeping it plugged in.

The Vision Pro features a cutting-edge microLED display, incorporating two panels that together provide a total of 23 million pixels. This pixel count surpasses that of a typical 4K TV, delivering an incredibly high-resolution visual experience for each eye.

The Vision Pro headset has the capability to generate a digital avatar that closely resembles a human and exhibits a high level of realism, distinguishing it from cartoonish representations like Memojis.

Microsoft and Zoom applications have already been optimized to run smoothly on the visionOS, the operating system of the Vision Pro headset. This means that users can expect seamless performance and enhanced functionality when using these popular apps on the device.

The Vision Pro introduces a new biometric security feature called Optic ID, which provides enhanced authentication and identification capabilities.

Apple Vision Pro price and availability

The price for the Apple Vision Pro headset is set at $3,499, and it is expected to be available in the early months of the upcoming year.
