Despite the initial hype, the first-generation Meta Ray-Ban glasses didn't quite hit the mark in terms of consumer adoption, with only around 10% of purchasers actively using them. In response to this lukewarm reception, Meta is set to launch the Ray-Ban Stories 2.0, a revamped version of its predecessor, loaded with enhanced features. One standout feature is the ability to livestream videos directly on platforms such as Instagram and Facebook, enabling users to interact in real-time with their viewers.

Details emerging from internal documents hint at an array of innovative functionalities for the Ray-Ban Stories 2.0. For instance, users will be able to record videos live, potentially revolutionizing the way influencers and journalists work. No longer will they be constrained by the need to hold or set up cameras – the glasses will seamlessly take over that role. A subtle built-in LED will illuminate, indicating when the wearer is either recording or streaming live.

Furthermore, the device offers an interactive experience. As users broadcast their perspective, they can also tune into their viewers' reactions and comments via the built-in headphones on the frame. In terms of audio quality, the glasses are expected to automatically adjust playback volume in response to ambient noise, ensuring an optimal listening experience. Anticipated hardware improvements include better cameras and an extended battery lifespan.

For context, the original Ray-Ban Stories debuted in September 2021 with a price tag of $299. Although the release of the second-generation glasses was anticipated for this fall, no official announcements have been made. Looking further ahead, the third-generation is slated for a 2025 release and is rumored to feature a display for incoming messages, along with text translation capabilities. Meta's inaugural AR glasses, codenamed Orion, are forecasted for a launch no earlier than 2027.
