Google Podcasts to cease operations next year

Google Podcasts is set to shut down in 2024, prompting users to transition to Podcasts within the YouTube Music app. Google's decision aligns with the preferences of podcast listeners, as data from Edison shows that 23% of weekly podcast users in the US prefer YouTube for podcast consumption, while only 4% opt for Google Podcasts.

In a blog post announcing the shift to YouTube Music, Google expressed its commitment to enhancing the podcast experience on the platform, offering unique features for both fans and podcasters. These improvements will encompass community engagement, content discovery, and seamless audio/visual transitions.

Google further detailed its plan, stating, "Later in 2024, as part of this process, we’ll be discontinuing Google Podcasts. As part of this process, we’ll be helping Google Podcasts users move over to Podcasts in YouTube Music." This transition marks Google's effort to streamline its podcast offerings and enhance the podcasting experience for its users.
