Nokia's new budget-friendly smartphone model has shown itself once again

Nokia is set to expand its smartphone range in the U.S., following the recent introduction of several new models, including the rugged and virtually "indestructible" XR21. The tech giant, under the aegis of HMD Global, is now gearing up for the launch of a budget-friendly addition to its G series – the Nokia G42 5G. The smartphone recently made an appearance on the Geekbench website, with its key specifications hinting at an Android 13 operating system and an as-yet-unnamed Qualcomm processor.

The recently spotted Geekbench listing reveals some intriguing details about the forthcoming Nokia G42. The device is said to be powered by a quad-core Qualcomm processor, clocking a base frequency of 1.90 GHz and a dual-core fast cluster at 2.21 GHz. Although the specific model of the processor remains unknown, it's expected to belong to the lower mid-range SoC category.

Supporting this expectation are the benchmark running scores. The Nokia G42 secured a single-core test score of 738 and a multi-core score of 1718. Further, the Geekbench listing implies that the smartphone is likely to feature a minimum of 4GB RAM and will come with the Android 13 software pre-installed. However, this is as much as can be gleaned from the current listing.

According to previous reports, there's likely to be a 6GB RAM variant of the Nokia G42, offering 128GB of integrated storage. It's also expected to feature a screen resolution of 1612*720 and may come in two color options – purple and gray. Additional details about the smartphone are not yet available, but more information should emerge in the days ahead.

For context, Nokia recently debuted the robust XR21 smartphone in the U.S. This device boasts MIL-STD 810H military-grade durability, IP68-rated water resistance, and IP69K-certified dust resistance. It runs on the Snapdragon 695 processor and includes 6GB RAM and 128GB of onboard storage.
