Google is gearing up to unveil its second-generation Pixel Watch at its annual event on October 5. The company has already provided a teaser of the upcoming smartwatch, showcasing its design similarities with its predecessor. While leaks and rumors have revealed some key details in the past, 9to5Google has now shared new insights into the Pixel Watch 2.

According to 9to5Google's sources, Google's second-generation smartwatch will feature a skin temperature sensor, allowing users to take temperature readings whenever needed. This differs from the Fitbit Sense 2, which only measures temperatures during the night. It remains to be seen if the Pixel Watch 2's temperature sensor will also support tracking menstrual cycles, similar to the Galaxy Watch 5 and 6 series. It's worth noting that the Pixel 8 Pro is also confirmed to include a temperature sensor.

Google's existing Personal Safety app on the Pixel Watch is expected to receive significant upgrades with the second-generation model. It will incorporate a car crash detection feature and work in conjunction with Pixel phones, resembling the integration seen with last year's iPhone 14 series and Apple Watch Series 8 onwards. On the Pixel Watch 2, this feature will display critical medical information for easy access by emergency responders. The app will also introduce Emergency Sharing, enabling users to share their location with trusted emergency contacts, even without a connected phone if the watch has an active LTE connection.

Additionally, the Pixel Watch 2 will introduce a safety check countdown, where Personal Safety will attempt to verify the user's well-being. If the user fails to respond, their emergency contacts will be alerted to their location.

The report further notes that the Pixel Watch 2 will reintroduce translation features for Wear OS, but it won't be in the form of a dedicated Google Translation app. Instead, Google Assistant's interpreter mode will facilitate translations on the device.
