Musk landed in Beijing on Tuesday, and within hours of arrival, met with China's Foreign Minister, Qin Gang. While Musk has remained quiet about the details of his trip amidst existing US-China tensions, his silence extends to declining questions from the press about his agenda for the visit.

On Wednesday, Musk had a meeting with Jin Zhuanglong, China's Minister of Industry, with discussions centering on the progression of electric vehicles. A statement from China's foreign ministry on the same day suggested that Musk was eager to expand Tesla's operations within China, which currently stands as the largest market for Tesla outside the United States. Musk reportedly likened the economies of both nations to "conjoined twins" during the meeting.

Despite a request for comment by BBC, Tesla did not offer an immediate response. Musk, who typically expresses himself frequently to his 141 million followers on Twitter—a platform he owns—has remained surprisingly silent on the social media channel since his arrival in China. Twitter, while banned in China, can be accessed via Virtual Private Networks (VPNs).

Musk joins the list of prominent American executives who have recently made the journey to China, including JP Morgan CEO Jamie Dimon and Apple's Tim Cook, who visited in March. Yet, as relations between Beijing and Washington become strained, Tesla is positioned precariously, according to Dan Ives of investment firm Wedbush Securities. Wall Street, he says, is keenly focused on ensuring Tesla's expansion within China in the coming years continues without disruption. Elon Musk visited China for the first time after a long hiatus.
