WhatsApp is working on a new type of filtering system

The internet-based instant messaging service, WhatsApp, will soon introduce another feature for its users' appreciation.

WhatsApp is reportedly working on an enhancement that will allow users to filter conversations directly from the chat list. This upcoming feature was spotted in the most recent update, version 2.23.14.17, released via the Google Play Beta Program.

In a previous Android update, version 2.23.10.6, WhatsApp debuted a bottom navigation bar. The company is now turning its attention to improving the app's interface and toolset. The current filtering feature has received criticism from users for its lack of accessibility. In response, WhatsApp has made efforts to simplify filtering conversations by adding a filter button directly in the chat list, aligning with user suggestions and reinforcing the importance of this functionality's accessibility.

In the soon-to-be-released update, WhatsApp plans to integrate three filters at the top of the chat list. These filters will allow users to categorize their chats based on unread messages, personal conversations, and business-related chats. Notably, there's no dedicated filter for group chats in the current stage of development. Many WhatsApp users frequently utilize group chats, so having a dedicated filter could significantly streamline access to these conversations. Although this specific filter is absent at this stage, it's hoped that WhatsApp will consider introducing it in a subsequent update.

The chat list filtering feature is currently under development and will be rolled out in a future update. Besides this feature, WhatsApp is developing other functionalities, such as rounded alerts for a modern appearance, high-quality video sharing capabilities, and a secure local chat transfer feature via QR code.
