According to WaBetaInfo, Mac users who had been waiting for a native WhatsApp version can now download it without restrictions. The company had been working on a new update and now it is open to access for all users.

Since it was built with Mac Catalyst and optimized for Mac hardware, the new app should be faster and more effective than the current web-wrapped Electron version. Additionally, a new interface with three panels allows you to quickly switch between chats, calls, archived and starred messages, contacts, and interactions. Developers can use Apple's Catalyst to port iOS apps to macOS or create a single version that can run on both platforms. The fact that the Mac was developed using Catalyst gives some hope that the long-awaited version will also be available for iOS. Meta stated in 2021 that it was expanding WhatsApp's multi-device support, triggering rumors of an iPad app.

WhatsApp released a native version for Windows 10 last year that does not require a smartphone to operate. It's faster and more reliable than the Mac app, and it looks the same.
