It has become a habit for Apple to have problems with different applications from time to time. The technology giant has come to the fore in the past because it does not allow third-party purchases in applications. Now there is a different problem.

In a blog post, Spotify stated that Apple is engaging in "anticompetitive" behavior that is affecting the new business after Spotify launched its audiobook business with 300,000 titles just a month ago. According to the company, Apple had rejected its audiobook purchasing system three times because it broke its rules. It had to hide the price of the audiobooks and sell them through an email link outside of the main app to comply.

Because customers are unable to easily compare prices, all of that makes it harder for Spotify to compete. This hurts not only consumers but also authors and publishers, who are now under Apple's control.Additionally, it is extremely inconvenient for customers who are accustomed to purchasing audiobooks via hyperlink.

Apple told The New York Times that Spotify's audiobooks could have easily been accepted if the company had followed the App Store rules. An Apple spokesperson stated, "We approved their app after they made changes that brought it into compliance and provided them with clear guidance on how to resolve the issue."Spotify could have also sold audiobooks through the App Store's purchasing system, but Apple would have taken a 30% cut, so Spotify's audiobooks would have been significantly behind Apple Books. With the launch of our Audiobooks, Spotify CEO Daniel Ek stated, "Apple has once more demonstrated just how brazen it is willing to be with its App Store rules, constantly shifting the goalposts to disadvantage their competitors."
