Will the Xiaomi Pad 5 series receive the Android 14 update?

The tablet series of the Chinese tech company Xiaomi currently seeks an answer to an intriguing question.

Will the Xiaomi Pad 5 series receive the Android 14 update?

In 2021, Xiaomi marked its re-entry into the tablet sector with the unveiling of the Xiaomi Pad 5 series. These devices initially operated on MIUI 12.5 for Pad, which was grounded in Android 11. Presently, across all regions, they function on an Android 13-powered MIUI 14. Recent discoveries hint that these products are set to receive the MIUI 15 update soon. However, this comes with a certain nuance.

Reports suggest that Xiaomi is in the development phase of MIUI 15 versions for the initial trio of Xiaomi Pad 5 series models: Xiaomi Pad 5, Xiaomi Pad 5 Pro WiFi, and Xiaomi Pad 5 Pro 5G. Yet, it's crucial to note that while these tablets will experience a MIUI update, the Android version won't see any progression. This means they won't be privy to the Android 14 update.

Will the Xiaomi Pad 5 series receive the Android 14 update?

This stance from Xiaomi isn't entirely unexpected, considering that the company didn't commit to three OS upgrades for this series. In contrast, devices like the Xiaomi 11T series and Xiaomi 11 Lite NE 5G, launched the same year, had such a commitment. The decision might leave a section of users dissatisfied, given that tablets tend to have a longer shelf life compared to smartphones in consumer hands. To give credit where it's due, Xiaomi's software support for tablets has undoubtedly improved over the years. Previously, most Xiaomi tablets were limited to a single MIUI update without any corresponding Android update.

However, when juxtaposed with other Chinese manufacturers, Xiaomi seems a tad lagging in the software support arena. For instance, while Xiaomi only recently announced plans for 4 OS updates for specific smartphones, its competitors had initiated such shifts a year ago.
