Today's announcement by 2K heralds the imminent arrival of NBA 2K24 on September 8th. This version, marking the 25th anniversary of the enduring basketball simulation game, brings a novel feature to the table - crossplay between PS5 and Xbox Series X/S, making it a series first. At the same time, the game also honors one of the NBA's legendary shooting guards.

In this version, a considerable emphasis has been placed on capturing the persona of Kobe Bryant, the Hall of Famer who passed away tragically in a helicopter accident in 2020 when he was just 41. Bryant not only graces the cover of the forthcoming game, but 2K has also incorporated a special "Mamba Moments" mode, essentially a Kobe-inspired version of the Jordan Challenge from NBA 2K23. Much like the Michael Jordan mode in the previous release, you'll be given the chance to recreate some of Bryant's most memorable performances, tracking his extraordinary journey from a promising rookie to a celebrated basketball legend, as per the game's developers.

Furthermore, NBA 2K24 introduces a novel technical feature termed ProPlay, which is designed specifically for current-gen PlayStation and Xbox consoles. This feature enables the transformation of real-life NBA footage directly into the game engine, and as the official description highlights, it brings about a significant enhancement in authenticity on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S. The specifics of ProPlay and the unique Mamba Moments mode will be unveiled by 2K later in the summer.

The game will be available in three editions: the Kobe Bryant Edition (which is the standard version), the Black Mamba Edition, and a 25th Anniversary Edition. The Kobe Bryant Edition is priced at $70 for PS5 and Xbox Series X/S and $60 for Switch, PC, PS4, and Xbox One. The Black Mamba Edition, costing $100, offers virtual currency and a host of digital collectibles. The 25th Anniversary Edition, at $150 and only available till September 10th, bundles everything from the Black Mamba Edition together with a 12-month NBA League Pass and additional in-game collectibles and boosts.
