News for Nothing Phone (1) users: The release date of the awaited update is set

The debut of the Nothing Phone (1) marked the launch of a device running on Nothing OS, a lean iteration of the native Android 12. The software gained accolades for its pared-back, bloatware-free approach, largely depending on Google's suite of apps. The fledgling tech firm, under the leadership of Carl Pei, has now enriched the user experience by incorporating new features and updates. Recently, the rollout of Nothing OS 2.0 for Phone (1) users has been announced.

The company and its founder, Carl Pei, disclosed that Nothing Phone (1) users will start receiving the Nothing OS 2.0 by the end of August, though the exact timeline is yet to be confirmed. The updated software is expected to introduce a range of new features, most likely based on Android 13. Despite Nothing kickstarting the Android 14 beta program for users, a stable build release by the end of August seems improbable. This seems particularly unlikely considering that Phone (1) only upgraded to Android 13 in February 2023.

One of the major anticipations regarding Nothing OS 2.0 is its potential to rejuvenate the User Interface (UI). In a conversation with XDA, Mladen M. Hoyss, the Software Creative Director at Nothing, expressed that the core concept of the new version hinges on "functional aesthetics." He explained that it would ideally translate complex data into visually comprehensible presentations. According to Hoyss, Nothing OS 2.0 will amalgamate the optimal facets of Android to boost user accessibility and efficiency.

The upcoming Nothing Phone (2), slated for a July release, is expected to have Nothing OS 2.0 installed as standard. Recently, Nothing has welcomed several former OnePlus team members, seemingly to fortify the success of the new device. The influence of these new additions might be noticeable in the new version of Nothing's custom skin, drawing inspiration from OxygenOS, as reportedly, 70% of the software team comprises individuals from Carl Pei's previous venture.
