15 people died and several injured in a nightclub fire in Kostroma, Russia.

MOSCOW (TechtUSA) - A fire broke out at around 02:00 local time in a nightclub in Kostroma, Russia. According to the statement made by the Ministry of Emergency Situations of Russia, disaster occurred as the fire spread to a large area and the roof collapsed. A large number of firefighters and ambulance crews were sent to the area.

15 fell victim to fire and several people injured in Kostroma nightclub fire

Regional governor Sergei Sitnikov announced that 13 people had been killed in the fire; however, emergency services later announced that the remains of two additional person had been discovered. Moreover, 5 people injured in the disaster.

It was announced that 250 people in the nightclub evacuated from the fire. Nightclub in Kostroma was 300 kilometers northeast of Moscow. 

"Police officers identified and detained the suspect behind unlawful acts in an entertainment establishment in the city of Kostroma, which resulted in a fire and the death of people," police said in a statement. 

"He has now been handed over to investigative authorities," they added. 

A drunk man with flare gun triggered the disaster

The TASS local news agency said a drunk man with a "flare gun" caused the fire during a fight in the nightclub.

"He was spending time in the bar with a woman, ordered her flowers, with a flare gun in his hands," the source told the agency.
