Google is gearing up for the unveiling of its second-generation Pixel Watch during the company's grand event slated for October 5. Already, a glimpse of this upcoming gem has been provided, showcasing its design from a comprehensive perspective. Notably, it carries a striking resemblance to its forerunner. Information leaks, coupled with rumors, have already illuminated several core features of the Pixel Watch 2.

According to sources familiar with the matter, Google's latest smartwatch iteration will be equipped with a unique skin temperature sensor, granting users the ability to take readings at their discretion. This contrasts with devices like the Fitbit Sense 2, which predominantly captures temperature readings nocturnally. A lingering question, however, pertains to whether this innovative temperature feature on the Pixel Watch 2 will extend its utility towards assisting women in monitoring their menstrual cycles, echoing capabilities observed in the Galaxy Watch 5 and 6 series. In a related development, the Pixel 8 Pro has been confirmed to possess a temperature sensor.

Google's established Personal Safety app, a cornerstone feature of the Pixel Watch, is anticipated to undergo major enhancements with this forthcoming edition. One such upgrade involves the integration of a car crash detection mechanism, designed to synergize seamlessly with Pixel smartphones. Drawing parallels to innovations seen in the iPhone 14 lineup and subsequent Apple Watch Series, the Pixel Watch 2 will strategically display pivotal medical data, ensuring swift and easy access for emergency personnel. Additionally, an "Emergency Sharing" functionality is in the pipeline, empowering users to relay their precise location to a roster of trusted emergency contacts. Noteworthy is the watch's ability to perform this even in the absence of a tethered phone, granted it maintains an active LTE connection.

Safety remains paramount with the introduction of a safety check countdown. Should users fail to respond within this designated window, the Personal Safety application will initiate protocols, ultimately notifying the user's emergency contacts regarding their whereabouts. On the software front, the Pixel Watch 2 is set to reintroduce translation features for Wear OS. However, a dedicated Google Translation app won't spearhead this endeavor. Instead, the mantle falls upon Google Assistant's interpreter mode, which promises to facilitate language translations.
