The Gmail search feature, previously deemed adequate, has now undergone an AI-driven transformation by Google aimed at prioritizing desired search results and optimizing the results page.

According to a blog post on the Workspace platform, Google has announced the introduction of a dedicated top results section in the Gmail search interface, aimed at providing users with quicker access to desired information compared to previous search functionalities.

“When searching in Gmail, machine learning models will use the search term, most recent emails and other relevant factors to show you the results that best match your search query,”  Google said.

“These results will now appear at the top of the list in a dedicated section, followed by all results sorted by recency.” it added.

The recently introduced feature is now being gradually rolled out to both personal Google Account users and Workspace customers on mobile devices, with an estimated rollout time of up to 15 days from the current date.

Google states that this highly requested feature aims to prioritize the most relevant information, enabling users to locate specific emails or files more efficiently. While the impact of this update on the overall Gmail search experience, which has been already well-regarded, is yet to be determined.
