Xiaomi, a technology giant known for its smartphones, has long relied on the MIUI operating system to power its devices. With a decade of history, MIUI 14 was lauded as a pinnacle of achievement, particularly in China.

Xiaomi launched HyperOS, is it a game-changer?

In a significant development, Xiaomi has now introduced HyperOS, signaling a transformative shift away from MIUI. HyperOS promises to be a game-changer, boasting the industry's most compact firmware size alongside notable improvements in security, performance, and multitasking capabilities.

Delving into the specifics, HyperOS showcases several enhancements to the user interface, offering users an array of options for lockscreen customization, including new templates, fonts, and widgets. The control center has received a refined makeover, exuding a more streamlined appearance compared to MIUI 14. Interestingly, app icons remain reminiscent of their MIUI 14 counterparts.

Notably, Xiaomi has incorporated new security features, such as a self-developed TEE security system that isolates sensitive content processing. This innovation ensures transparent and controllable internet permissions, providing users with complete visibility into their device's connections.

What sets HyperOS apart is its firmware's adaptability, capable of accommodating various hardware requirements. Remarkably, the mobile phone firmware is astonishingly compact, standing at a mere 8.75GB, positioning it as the smallest in the industry.

HyperOS brings an integrated AI large model into the mix, powering features like the Xiaoai Input Assistant for text generation, WPS Document Scanning for text recognition in documents, AI Wonderful Painting for transforming doodles into art, and AI Image Search for intuitive image retrieval. Moreover, it fosters seamless device-cloud integration.

The new operating system introduces a revolutionary concept of cross-device collaboration, enabling apps to harness the capabilities of multiple devices. For instance, Camera Collaboration permits the use of a phone's rear camera in PC video conferences for enhanced video quality. Network Collaboration amplifies connectivity by granting devices access to a phone's 5G network, ensuring swift and reliable connections. Cross-Device Focus Notification facilitates the sharing of notifications across various devices, allowing users to view pertinent information on different screens.

HyperOS represents a monumental leap forward for Xiaomi's operating system, marked by enhanced memory management for faster startup times and improved background app performance. The optimized file system sustains I/O performance over prolonged periods, while the graphics subsystem introduces real-time blurring, enhancing motion effects.

In terms of availability, Xiaomi has set the official release of HyperOS for December 2023 for Chinese models, with international models slated for the first quarter of 2024. The Xiaomi 14 series, Redmi K60 Extreme Edition, and Xiaomi Pad 6 Max will be among the first devices to embrace this innovative operating system.
