Phil Spencer, the head of Xbox, recently discussed Microsoft's acquisition of Activision Blizzard and its potential implications for Xbox Game Pass. Amidst speculations about the future inclusion of the "Call of Duty" series on Game Pass, Spencer emphasized the complexities of integrating games post-acquisition.

He said, "People should understand that incorporating games into Game Pass isn't instantaneous. Following an acquisition, there's substantial groundwork to be done. Thus, expecting every acquired game to be instantly available on Game Pass isn't realistic."

In another highlight, the anticipated release of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III later this year was brought up. Previously, Activision Blizzard CEO, Bobby Kotick, expressed skepticism towards multi-game subscription services from a business standpoint.

Spencer, addressing their contrasting views, said with a chuckle, "The decision-making authority will change post-acquisition." He then elaborated on Xbox Game Pass's philosophy, explaining that not every game suits the subscription model. "If you're a top-tier game with a significant marketing budget aimed at maximizing day-one awareness, I see why you might not opt for a day-one subscription model," he commented. He added that Microsoft's primary aim with first-party games on Game Pass is to expand the subscription base, and they've observed its growth, particularly on PCs.
