Text messages emerged in which the CEO of OceanGate tried to persuade an investor from Las Vegas, USA, to take a trip to the Titanic with the company's deadly marine observation craft for a discounted fee, making alarming claims about how safe it was.

Las Vegas investor Jay Bloom revealed in a Facebook post that the company's CEO and founder, Stockton Rush, had turned down an offer to reserve him a seat on the Titan marine observatory due to safety concerns.

 In her post, Bloom shared screenshots of messages he and Rush had exchanged a few months before the fatal trip. Sean also was considering the trip with his son. The investor wrote: I voiced my safety concerns and Stockton told me, 'It's obviously a risk, but it's much safer than flying in a helicopter or even scuba diving'.  Bloom tells Rush in text messages that her son is worried about "silly" dangers, such as a giant squid or whale attacking marine observation craft.
