WhatsApp, Meta's well-known messaging app, is rolling out an intriguing update via Google Play Beta Program, pushing the version to 2.23.16.12. As indicated by WABetaInfo, this update includes the eagerly awaited feature of animated avatars, a functionality previously under development, and now available for select beta testers to try out.

This new update enhances the existing avatar suite by offering animated versions of current avatars, adding a touch of dynamism and improving the interactive experience for users who frequently use this feature. To see if this feature is activated on your WhatsApp account, you simply need to open the avatar tab in a conversation.

The presence of an animation for some avatars signifies that you are now able to share animated avatars. Importantly, it's not required for recipients to have this feature enabled to view the animated avatars they receive in a chat, meaning you can share your animated avatars even with non-beta testers.

At the moment, animated avatars are accessible to some beta testers who have installed the most recent WhatsApp beta for Android from the Google Play Store. The feature will gradually reach more users in the weeks to come. Alongside the animated avatars, WhatsApp is also developing other intriguing features, such as a Video Messaging function that resembles Voice Messaging, a time-efficient group creation feature, and enhancements in Material Design 3.
