Microsoft released Windows 7 more than a decade ago, and it has been one of the most well-liked OS updates ever. But considering that it has been more than a decade the company has now decided to cut support for it. When it was released many people switched right away from Windows 8.1 and 8 to Windows 10. Those who stayed behind should be aware that Windows 7 and Windows 8.1 are coming to an end today.

Windows 7 stopped receiving feature updates in January 2020, and Microsoft offered extended security support for an additional fee for a period of three years, but now this time has also come to en end. Microsoft stops providing security updates and forces users to choose between upgrading or remaining on Windows 7, which may have its security compromised.

Third-party data indicates that Windows 8.1 is installed on far fewer computers than Windows 7 is on approximately 10% of PCs worldwide. Perhaps this is why Microsoft is discontinuing all support for Windows 8.1 and will not provide security updates as it did for Windows 7.
