Sleeping plays a vital role in human health

Sleep is a very important factor for human health. This process, in which the body renews itself, rests and processes the day, has an important place in human health. We seriously need sleep especially when we are sick in order to recover, but what happens if we do not get sleep one night?

Research recently published in the Journal of Neuroscience suggests that just one night's sleep deprivation can cause significant changes in brain structure, making the brain look like it would a year or two later.

Scientists, including those from Forschungszentrum Jülich in Germany, evaluated the MRI data of 134 healthy volunteers, 42 female and 92 male, aged 19 to 39, from five datasets with various sleep circumstances and the results have shown serious results.

"In three independent datasets, we found that brain age was consistently increased after complete sleep deprivation. This was also associated with differences in sleep variables," the scientists wrote in the study. The findings show that acute complete sleep loss changes brain morphology in an "aging-like direction" in young people.
