NASA's Inspector General reveals that the Space Launch System (SLS) rocket designed to carry astronauts to the moon is over budget and significantly behind schedule. NASA being highşy active these couple years has costed company a lot. On top of that having a rocket behind schedule has affected the company. Recent reports claim "extra expense and timetable expands" that might actually imperil the whole Artemis mission on the off chance that issues aren't taken care of.

By 2025, NASA is expected to spend $93 billion on the Artemis Moon Program, with $23.8 billion already spent on the SLS system through 2022. According to the report, that amount represents "$6 billion in cost increases and over six years in schedule delays above NASA's initial projections." This situation causes some problems within the company as well.

The SLS, which at last sent off without precedent for November 2022, utilizes four RS-25 motors for each send off, including 16 rescued from resigned Space Transports. NASA will switch to Aerojet Rocketdyne's RS-25E engines, which are expected to be 30% cheaper and 11% more powerful once those run out (all SLS engines are expendable). It also makes use of Northrop Grumman's solid rocket boosters.
