Within the next few days, Microsoft may announce widespread layoffs. Sky News first reported and Bloomberg later confirmed the possibility of the tech giant firing a significant portion of its workforce. Sky estimated that approximately 11,000 of the company's 220,000 employees, or 5%, would be affected by the layoffs. Bloomberg reported that the layoffs would affect "a number of engineering divisions" and will be "significantly larger" than Microsoft's previous rounds of job cuts over the past year, though it was unable to determine the magnitude of the cuts.

According to a Microsoft spokesperson, the company does not respond to rumors or speculation. If the figure of 11,000 is true, it would be the same as the 11,000 positions that Meta eliminated last year. Layoffs also mobilized social rights advocates. Many advertisers have decided to withdraw from the platform, especially due to the layoffs experienced in Twitter in the past.
